Transformirror is a real-time generative AI interactive video installation developed and created by Daito Manabe and Kyle McDonald, and produced by Rhizomatiks. Beginning with W Osaka, the work has evolved through festivals, city-scale media programs, education events, and new media art exhibitions.
The system combines real-time SDXL Turbo image-to-image transformation with Stable Audio text-to-music. When a visitor is captured by a webcam, their image is immediately transformed and displayed on a large LED screen, creating a public mirror where body, prompt, image, and sound are continuously reinterpreted.

Related realtime diffusion and body-analysis lineage
Transformirror also belongs to a longer history of camera-based body analysis. Kinect's 2010 consumer depth sensor, together with creative coding environments such as openFrameworks, made it practical to treat visitors as distance, skeleton, and body-part data in realtime exhibitions. Transformirror is not a Kinect-style skeleton tracking work, but it inherits the same shift: the body becomes readable input for a responsive visual system.
Memo Akten's Learning to See is another essential precedent. Its interactive editions used live camera input and neural networks to reinterpret hands and everyday objects as learned visual worlds in realtime. Transformirror extends that question from tabletop objects to a full-body public mirror, using contemporary diffusion models and generated audio.
For technical background, Kyle McDonald's Transformirror History traces related real-time diffusion deployments that grew from the same toolkit. ICC's Generative MV is one such related work, dynamically changing Ryuichi Sakamoto video backgrounds in response to audience text input.
