"Generative MV" by Daito MANABE + Rhizomatiks + Kyle McDONALD is an AI music video that changes its background in real time in response to text input from the audience, using green-screen footage of Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Perspective" as the source performance.
ICC describes the work as a music video in which AI dynamically generates background effects from audience text input. It is based on green-screen footage of "Perspective" from the 2020 online concert "Ryuichi Sakamoto: Playing the Piano 12122020."
Image-generation technology that attracted major attention around 2022 initially required tens of seconds to apply effects. With rapid algorithmic and technical improvements, processing reached the range of several dozen milliseconds, making real-time applications practical.
The work treats that transitional state as part of its visual language. It connects SAKAMOTO Ryuichi's long-standing interest in the relationship between expression and the technology of each era with the archival and AI-development questions visible in his conversations with MANABE Daito.
The YouTube video is preserved as a responsive in-page embed rather than reduced to a plain outbound text link.
In the ICC archive, the work is connected to the special exhibition "Tribute to RYUICHI SAKAMOTO: Music / Art / Media," held from December 16, 2023 to March 10, 2024.
Credits preserve the roles and names listed on the ICC work archive.
Work information, exhibition context, and production credits are based on the ICC archive. The video is embedded from the official YouTube post.
